Ingredients

1 1/2     cups (375 mL) all-purpose flour, divided
3/4     cup (175 mL) granulated sugar, divided
2     teaspoons (10 mL) baking powder
1/2     teaspoon (2 mL) salt
1/2     cup (125 mL) milk
1    egg
2     tablespoons (30 mL) melted butter
2 1/2     cups (625 mL) chopped fresh strawberries
1/4    cup (50 ml) butter, softened
Garnish: whipped cream

Directions

In large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup (250 mL) flour, ½ cup (125 mL) sugar, baking powder and salt. Add milk, egg and melted butter and beat at low speed for 2 minutes. Spoon mixture into a greased 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan. Spread strawberries evenly over top.

In a small bowl, mix until crumbly the remaining ½ cup (125 mL) flour, 1/4 cup (50 mL) sugar, and softened butter. Sprinkle mixture over strawberries. Bake in a 350°F (180°C) oven for 35 - 40 minutes, or until top is lightly browned.

Cut into squares and serve, garnished with whipped cream. Makes 9 servings.
