The Charlottetown Farmers Market offers delicious foods and unique gifts at any time of year—but with Christmas approaching, it’s a great place to find inspiration for that hard-to-shop-for person on your list.
The market is home to dozens of vendors of fresh produce, baked goods, cheeses, meats and seafood. Steve Knechtel, who sells artisanal breads made with stone milled flour, speaks proudly of the sourdough starter he uses in his baking, and he has indeed earned those bragging rights.

On the gift-shopping front, you’ll find craftspeople offering quilted wall hangings (Kelly Burgess), homemade goat’s milk soaps (Kettlegrove Soapworks) and tin garden ornaments (Willowbend Studio). There will be a special Artisan Christmas Fair at the market featuring 55 artisans in a juried show and sale on Sunday, December 4.
This year, you can even pick up a Christmas tree at the market. In the weeks leading up to the holiday, George Matheson, who sells lamb from Springwater Farm, will also be selling trees harvested from his property.
This lively market is a bright spot on a wintery day. Open Saturday from 9am to 2pm through fall and winter; 100 Belvedere Ave; charlottetownfarmersmarket.weebly.com.
